The Allen Bradley 1746-N16l is an analog input module with 16-bit resolution and 16 input channels. The module falls into the voltage category of -20 to 20 MA. Its backplane current is 125 mA at 5 volts and 75 mA at 24 volts. Its bottom plate power consumption is up to 2.425 watts (0.625 watts at 5 volt DC and 1.8 watts at 24 volt DC). This module has a common-mode voltage range of +/-10.25 volts relative to analog common terminals.

Analog inputs are used to connect analog process variables to measure their size. Other parameters can also be defined to fine-tune the module's operation. It has a user selectable data format such as engineering units, PID scale, scale counts ranging from -32,768 to + 32,767, and scale counts for user defined ranges, with 3 levels only. The module also has the function of detecting the open input channel. The startup time of the module is less than 5 seconds. The Belden #8761 cable or any equivalent cable is recommended when connecting the signal to the module. Use a maximum wire size of 14 AWG. Each terminal may be terminated with a maximum of two (2) wires. This is recommended to avoid confusion and difficulty in closing the module door.

This high resolution analog input module has five green status indicators, one for each set of four channels and one for the module status, providing visual indication of the module status and channel operation.
