ABB Power and Digitalization In the world, ABB launched ABB Ability smart substation control and protection system SSC600 in China. The scheme represents a new way of protection control in the distribution network, integrating all protection control functions at the substation level. This is a new approach, but it is based on the ABB Relion protection and control family of products, with a solid and mature technical foundation.

The SSC600 is designed to support ABB Ability's digital solutions to help utilities and industrial users learn more about their systems and equipment and do more business. Combining SSC600 with other ABB Ability products and solutions provides a new substation lifecycle management solution. The SSC600's advanced connectivity capabilities enable seamless integration with additional services such as remote diagnostics, asset management, and upgrade services to achieve greater value for customers.

The single device of SSC600 can be applied to a wide range of applications, to achieve full station visualization of digital substation, simplified engineering volume, cost efficient process management, and advanced full life cycle management. Combining the SSC600 with the merge unit provides a measurement and physical interface between the main device in the switchgear and the SSC600 to create a unique, IEC 61850 compliant centralized protection and control solution.

The modular software can be customized at the initial ordering stage and can be modified flexibly over the life of the digital substation. The SSC600 is ready to be upgraded with the grid to meet changing protection requirements. Continuous access to software dynamics will ensure the advanced nature of the substation system. It is easier than ever to upgrade the entire substation system by updating one piece of equipment instead of replacing all the protection and control equipment at the intervals.
