The GE FanucIC693CMM321 is an Ethernet interface module. By implementing the module in a 90-30 series PLC system, users can connect it to an Ethernet LAN. This is achieved through AAUI cables and external transceivers. This setup enables the PLC system to communicate with the host computer and other control devices on the network. The IC693CMM321 interface module provides the client and server functions. Using the ladder program through the CONMMREQ function block, the module acts as a client to communicate with other PLCS containing Ethernet interfaces. When acting as a server, a module only responds to requests. For example, it can respond as a client to another 90-30 series PLC.

Ethernet interface modules enable users to do many things, such as initiating data transfer from the device to the PLC to communicate with multiple devices simultaneously through up to 16 server connections. However, the IC693CMM321 does have some limitations, as the module does not support the handheld programmer 90-30, 20, or any model range in the miniature series.
