The IC693BEM331 is a bus controller module that is part of the general Cerise 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) product family. Manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation, the module is used to connect the 90-30 series PLC to the proprietary Genius l/O bus. The bus controller module is capable of communicating with Genius modules, such as discrete, analog, and special-purpose field devices. It also supports communication with remote /0 branches, which include 90-70 series /O racks connected via remote /O scanner modules, field control /O stations via bus interface units (of which up to eight (8 hours plus field control modules) are supported, Genius handheld monitors, and various hosts.

The 90-30 Series PLC system can be installed with up to eight (8) Genius bus controllers or enhanced Genius communication modules. In order to achieve this configuration, the firmware required for the 90-30 series PLC is firmware 5.0 or higher.

The IC693BEM331 is equipped with leds in various states mounted on the front panel of the module. These indicators include normal and communication indicators. The Normal indicator is steady on during normal operation. This indicator light remains on after the power-on diagnosis is complete. When the bus controller module actively communicates, the COM LED lights up steadily and blinks when intermittent bus connections and errors occur.

Compatible series 90-30 PLCS used with the C6938EM331 Bus Controller - are IC693CPU311K, 321K, 331L or later, and any version of IC693CPU313, 323, 340.341, 350, 351, 352, 360, 363, and 364. The required firmware version is 5.0 or higher.

The GE FanucIC693BEM331 bus controller is capable of processing up to 128 bytes of input and output data on the bus from field devices. The configuration of the GE Fanuc lC6938EM331 bus controller is done with an additional proprietary GE Fanuc handheld monitor. Some of the types of /O devices that can send and receive data to Series 90-30 PLCS that use the GE FanuclC693BEM331 bus controller as the communication interface include discrete /O devices such as solenoid valves, motor starters, and limit switches, or analog /O devices such as pressure transmitters and temperature sensors. Manufacturers recommend that the GE FanucIC6938EM331 bus controller be installed in a protective housing to avoid direct contact with water, excessive humidity, and very high and very low temperatures.
